Where Do I Start?

Where Do I Start?

When a new client contacts me and asks, "Where do I start?  Which service is right for me?"  I ask a series of questions to assess what the client is trying to accomplish and where they are starting from.  The answers are often similar, but with different symptoms.  It begins something like this, "I have pain/discomfort in my back but sometimes it moves into my legs.  I also have headaches randomly.  I don't sleep very well because the pain wakes me up."  Or perhaps it sounds more like this, "I just hurt all over some days while other days it isn't too bad.  I don't have much energy and feel like I'd like to sleep forever. Occasionally I experience tingling in my arms."

If this sounds familiar, but perhaps substituting a few of the symptoms with your own, I'd tell you to start with the Central Nervous System (CNS).  The CNS, which consists of the brain, all the nerves in the spine and the membranes system that houses and connects them, along with the cerebral spinal fluid, dictates everything that goes on in the body.  When you are suffering from varied and what seems to be, random symptoms, it is usually because something is off in the CNS.

Using Craniosacral Therapy (CST) I can manually reset that system by releasing the restrictions in the system.  It is deeply relaxing to the client as it effects the entire body and all its systems.  Then as I "restart" or bring that system back "online" it will help to reset the problems elliviating or reducing some of the symptoms.  I repeat this over a series of three appointments no more than a week between each one.  This helps retrain the CNS how to switch from its "rest and relaxation" system to its "flight and fight" counterpart smoothly.  As the body re-learns how to do this process it helps all systems of the body to work more smoothly and continually.  Therefore, by correcting the problem in the CNS, it corrects many symptoms in the client's body.

So when you don't know where to start, start with the Central Nervous System.

Infants, Breastfeeding and Latching On

Each week I would like to focus on one important aspect of the therapies I've chosen to focus on to help heal the world.......one body at a time.

This week I've chosen to highlight CranioSacral therapy with infants and children.  Many families do not know that this gentle but highly effective therapy can help their children from newborn to teenager and beyond.  With infants a common issue is the baby not being able to latch on while breastfeeding, resulting in a frustrating experience for both baby and mother.  Jennifer Presley, a massage therapist who specializes in CranioSacral Therapy, like myself, wrote a wonderfully informative article on why and how the therapy helps on her blog, "From Belly to Baby".

I've reposted it here for your information and enjoyment. http/www.frombellytobaby.ca/from-belly-to-baby-online-issues/44-2013-issues/issue-19-spring-2013/178-craniosacral-therapy-for-improving-latch-in-breastfeeding. You can cut and paste it into your browser and enjoy her concise explanations.

I personally have treated newborns from a few hours old, to toddlers, to a 5 year old boy who stuttered horribly and had been in speech therapy for a year and a half.  Within a few visits we had corrected the bones, muscles and connective tissues of the mouth and head and the stuttering was significantly reduced to only times of extreme fatigue or stress.  Frontal bone compression from difficult births is another situation I see fairly regularly.  This causes pressure on the frontal lobe of the brain with symptoms of outburst of over reacted frustration or anger.

If you and your child are experiencing growing pains from these or other symptoms including reflux, ear infections, lack of coordination, constipation, then please call or schedule an appointment today.  I'd be happy to do an evaluation.
